When repairing anything that runs on electricity always
unplug it no matter what type of appliance or device it is and that goes for
PCs especially.
Minute static electricity maybe present so a satic wrist strap is the right
way to go. You can never be too carefull when working with delicate equipment
period IMHO.
There are three battery socket types: socket upper tab, socket with lateral tab
and vertical socket.
If its a socket with a upper tab DONT pry back the tab with your finger or
you'll break the retention tab and damage it permanently. instead press the
small plastic lock at the side of the socket with your fingers or using a small
1/8 flathead screwdriver. This will allow the battery to slide lateraly into
the socket. Do not force it in this can break the retention tab also.
if the batter is either in a lateral or vertical socket all you need to do is
draw back the tab using your finger or a small 1/8 flathead screwdriver remove
the old battery and instll the new one.
Always remember save your current cmos configuration before you unplug the pc
to replace the cmos battery.

So is this as easy as it looks. I know to write down my settings and to =
ground myself. No straps so I am just going to touch the metal case. Is =
this one of those "repairs" where you just leave everything plugged in as=
is or do you remove the plugs from the wall socket. I got a 3 volt CR2032=
battery from Radio Shack for a 6 year old desktop. I guess I am just goin=
g
to be carful and slide a small screwdriver into what looks liek a slot or=
an opening and does the battery pop out or will I be able to slide it out=
.
Putting the new one in. Those tiny holders or clips appear to be rigid. =
Does the new battery slide in or do I just pop it in and applu pressure. =
TIA.
