BTW what is the physical setup of the drives and any other ata
devices. Please be specific, for example:
drive 0 (brand/model no) is jumpered for master on the MB
primary ide connector using the end connector of a 40 conductor
cable
drive 1 (brand/model no) is jumpered for master on a ata/133
pci card on the primary connector using the end connector of a
80 conductor cable
