This simply reminds me of trialware, which I always thought was a reasonable
approach to giving users a chance to test a product while protecting the
author.
I suppose the difference with Vista is that you've already paid for it and
may/may not want to register but, if I recall correctly, MS aleady denies
updates to those who can't confirm a copy is genuine... which to me seems like a
form of reduced functionality.
Some folks always like to get the latest product and sometimes it is worthwhile;
however, I think I could continue being quite happy with Win2000 vs. WinXP or
Vista much like I was happy with DOS 3.31 vs. later versions. :-)
