Why do you think there are so many peeps still using 98se? Sure we
can do some things in XP that one can't do in 98se but not enough for
the average user to care & if they're behind a router with snake oil
apps then what do they care after all there shall be apps for 98 for
many years to come & apps for XP for many years past that.
AFAIK there hasn't been an app or OS out there that hasn't been
cracked therefore the only safe computer is the one that is NOT on
the Internet then there are some users that can't resist the
temptations of the dark side. Where is Hans Solo when you need him?
Don't get me wrong as I don't begrudge anyone that wants the latest &
the greatest but it's not like they're reinventing the computer. Heck
the more that MSFT locks down the OS from would be thieves [all of us
could be so were guilty until proven innocent] the more peeps are
going to be jumping to other OSes.
How many peeps bought the Home version only to wish they had Pro
instead? With all the various forms of Vista I'm betting that will
become a larger issue but I don't believe MSFT cares about the
Home/SOHO market because even if they completely lost that they'd
still have the business sector. A few people will insist on having
the same OS that their office has but independents are getting more &
more fed up everyday. Heck you could build another machine with the
money saved by building a NIX machine & running OO instead & with
less hoops to jump thru than with Vista. It would almost make
dropping to Root several times a session worth it. ;-)
