Every time I close out Outlook Express I receive a message "To free up disk space Outlook Express can compact messages. This may take up to a few minutes. Yes/No The last time I clicked Yes, I lost all of the messages that I had saved in various folders. Would anyone know how to turn this option off? Thanks!

You normally get presented with that option when you delete messages out of your folders and don't compact them. I havene't seen that message in awhile and I don't think you can turn it off, but I don't remember. I normally compact my folders after deleting or moving messages around. It doesn't remove messages from folders, it just releases the previously allocated space in the file that was freed up by deleting messages. I suspect you inadvertently deleted your messages or even mistakenly moved the folder. If you have your deleted messages set to be permanently deleted on close then they are gone. If you mistakenly moved the folder look at other folders to see if it became a sub-folder. That's happened to me more than once!
