Did the compress work on the deleted messages folder I found that that was the single folder that didn't get appropriately reduced in size by the compress - Solution was just to delete that .dbx file, and OE created a new (empty and small) one at the next startup
And - yes I had backed up the entire email directory - it, together with any personally typed in data files (xls doc etc) goes onto a cycle of DVD-RW's on weekly basis (And every 4th week that one gets moved into the 'monthly' cycle or - every 6 months (approx) to the bi-annual set, with an encrypted copy dropped off at a relatives house, in case I get a visit from the overnight property relocation specialists) JimB ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rick Glazier" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2006 6:07 AM Subject: Re: O/L Express Question (Email) > I get that message when I forget to compress the folders for awhile, or delete lots of stuff... > (I recently got rid of 37,000 old messages and various mail folders...) > > It is only supposed to free disk space, NOT get rid of any of your messages... > (It is either "broken" or something else happened by accident.) > > Rick Glazier > > > From: "Robbie" > >Every time I close out Outlook Express I receive a message "To free up disk space Outlook Express can >compact messages.
