My neighbor's Toshiba Satellite A105 laptop (Win XP Home) is having big troubles. He called me on a pretext so I didn't have enough time to troubleshoot, but I thought I would mention some of the problems and maybe you could give me a heads up on what I might investigate.

1) He has a wireless mouse that works for several minutes and then goes dead. Unplugging the receiver from the USB port and reinserting it brings it back to life for a few minutes. Tried it on 2 USB ports -- same result. The touchpad continues to work.

2) Both USB printers will not print. They are connected and the power is on.

3) Wireless network will not connect to any of the networks it can see. Reset the router and it worked for a few minutes. Hardwired network is fine. I ran the speed test at speakeasy.com and got some very interesting results for Comcast cable: 25000 kbps down and 360 kbps up! When the wireless network worked it was very sluggish.

Thanks.
