I was having problems with the refresh issue with Xfree 4.01 also. To fix
this you need to edit your /etc/X11/XF86Conf-4 file and put in the option
backingstore under the section device. Here is how mine looks for reference:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Voodoo Banshee (generic)"
VendorName "Unknown"
BoardName "Unknown"
Driver "tdfx"
VideoRam 16384
Option "accel"
Option "backingstore" <----------add this
BTW- I was just infomed by a fellow win4lin user that he was able to use his
win4lin 1.0 with Mandrake 7.2 after applying the kernel patches.
