I take it you have never tried to work with Gateway before...
They are one of those companies that have absolutly no concept of
customer service. You are NOT ALLOWED to speak with a supervisor - ever.
Gateway does not care about their consumer or business customers at all.
Once they have your money, you are just an annoying flea.
Your only recourse as a gateway customer is to take gateway to court.
Small claims court may be a good option. Sue them for the amount of a full
retail copy of Win98.
My advise to everyone with regards to Gateway is to avoid them like the plague.
If you already have a gateway computer, I feel sorry for you. Your best bet
is to sell it and buy a computer from a reputable firm.
