Yan,

A good website for Linux on laptops,
http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/ . You can browse the
different models on which other individuals have installed Linux and get an
idea of what has to be done for particular models. I have RH 6.2 on a
Toshiba Portege 3025CT with Win4Lin2 and 98 SE and it runs beautifully.
With the Portege's long battery life (or small power inverter), it makes an
excellent MP3 player in the car with the use of a cassette adapter and the
line out jack.

Good luck!

Sincerely,

Subject: [Win4Lin-users] win4lin on laptops

I need to set up a laptop for win4lin. It will be running (most likely)
redhat 7 + win4lin 2 + windows 98se.

I have no experience with laptops running linux. I am looking at Dell
and/or Gateway, but I'm not set on either.

Does anyone have any recommendations (pro or con) for laptops?

Performance is not really an issue; this will be used for bookkeeping,
accounting, and word processing. However, we will be paying per-minute
internet access, so a good, solid, fast modem is a must as this laptop
will have to interface to our VPN.

The ability to use it in a car, etc, is a plus but not essential. Sound
is a plus, but not essential. TV out jacks would be nice, but again,
not essential.
