I think only control alt 1 to 3 work for heading. At least that is the case on word 2003.
Personally I would also recommend the Table of Contents creation wizard in Word. This, when used in conjunction with structured heading , work very well and is a big time saver. Of course you can assign this and any other ribbon or menu command in word to a keyboard shortcut in customise Options. Using this you could not only assign a shortcut to create a table of contents but also for example, assign keyboard shortcuts to take you to the header or footer of a document. I would also add remember the automatic bullet insertion with the use of asterix on the first line of a list which is converted into a bullet with a another bullet on the next line ready for next item in the list. Personally I often also use the Control enter key combination to force a new page break. Another Word processing tip, not confined to Word, is to use Tables without grid lines to fine tune control of layout on a Word Document. So for example you want a letter heading with text left aligned on the left and right aligned on the right. Perhaps for your address on the left hand side and the sendee's address on the right side. It is normally impossible to have left aligned and right aligned text on the same line but this is easily achieved if you insert a two column table with one row with invisible grid lines. In cell one you can left align text and cell 2 you can right align text giving the desired visual affect for the sighted reader. Using tables in this way you can create much more flexible alignment possibilities. You could in theory have some text left aligned, some centred and some right aligned using a 3 cell table. Basically turn to tables whenever you are restricted in layout options. This is one of the reasons that it is A big shame that VO support is not available for tables on OS. HI Gordon, A few more: control 1 to single space lines, control 2 to double space lines, control 5 for 1.5 spacing of lines. control E to center text, Control B to bold, control I to italics, control U to underline. As far as headings, you can control, alt 1 through 6 to my knowledge for each heading style. after selecting text, control D will open font dialogue box and you can tab through to make selections.
