Using NVDA with Microsoft word 2003 I find the following.

1. If you select a line of text and press control alt 1 NVDA does not
immediately announce anything. There is this temporary lack of information.
2. However if I cursor down one line and return to the line NVDA will now
announce Heading level 1.
On all future occasions you encounter this line NVDA will announce the
header status of the line.
3. In addition pressing NVDA and F for format will announce all the format
information for the line you are on, including font heading style etc.
4. Therefore to confirm that you have entered the correct style you need to
cursor up and down once or press NVDA plus F.

I hope that helps.

Subject: Re: Microsoft Word, Where Am I Going Wrong?

hi

This is quite interesting actually because after trying these hot keys, NVDA
isn't giving me any info regarding a change in style selection. The bold,
italic and underline would probably be verbalised though. But pressing
Alt+Control+1, for example, didn't apply the heading at the first level to
my block of selected text. Again though, this could be user error so I'll
go and give it another try.

Kind regards
