Thanks for the info.  These functions are clearly very internal, so I
don't see much need to implement them in a compatible way. If it makes
things easier for us OK, otherwise we can just come up with our own
conversion functions and forget about these.  I certainly don't see
them as a good reason for using Windows-format NLS files.
