I have been a teacher in Winona Area Public Schools for over 30 years. My personal opinion is that site teams are not effective.
Almost all of my teaching has been in the elementary buildings. I have never been a member of a site team, but I have attended a few site team meetings.
In a small school, I believe more can be accomplished at a staff meeting, than at a site team meeting. The relationship between the building administrator and the staff is very important in creating an environment for learning. A good building administrator will get input from the staff when important decisions are made. A good building administrator does not "pass the buck" to a site team.
Again, I say, this is my personal feeling about site based management and it may be very different than the majority opinion among teachers.
