I can't speak about the technology for burning the tires, but
isn't it ironic that an electric generating plant that
would use scrap tires as fuel would depend on trucks to supply
it, thus generating more scrap tires? (MnDot's
railroad map shows no operating lines
anywhere near Preston).
Mr. Double mentions encephalitis as a reason for going ahead
with the tire burner in Preston. That implies
that the tires would otherwise be discarded and stored on
uncovered surface lots, and I don't know if that is
in fact the case.

I am wondering what other citizens of Winona
County think of the proposed tire burning plant in Preston.
I do not comprehend how this can be done and also
give us clean air to breathe. The amount of tires they are going to burn
will have to be brought in by semi trucks as I cannot remember a railroad in
Preston that is in use. This would involve more traffic and exhaust thus even
more unclean air.
Good for the citizens of Preston for
fighting this.
