Kieth, I'd like to know how you will handle the Water Table Problem. To go down deep enough for the tallest Emergency Vehicle could make this interesting.  Bob Kaldunski

[Winona Online Democracy]

To all:

A vehicle and pedestrian underpass for Huff Street, and pedestrian underpasses for Johnson and Winona Streets at the railroad crossings are being considered.  It appears that the federal government is willing to assist in these projects as proposed by the City and WSU.  Because of the high levels of “conflicts” at these intersections they were recommended for improvements in a past railroad study.

It is proposed that the rail line would need to be raised and the roads would be lowered.  Design has not begun, only some preliminary thoughts have occurred.

It would appear to be highly beneficial to have a grade separation for emergency vehicles as well as to assist the normal traffic flows in the center of town as well as to keep pedestrian traffic off of the unsignalized crossings adjacent to the athletic facilities.

It would be difficult for the general public to have an educated opinion of these projects at this point.  I would like to ask some of the “lurkers” out there (200 strong silent types) what information you would like to see as these projects unfold.  Perhaps we can get something up on the Web site.  I know that the City Council will be having public meetings to discuss the merits and details of these projects.  For this to proceed it will need to be the desire of the public.

            Any thoughts and input?
