Kieth, I'd like to know how you will handle the Water Table Problem. To go down deep enough for the tallest Emergency Vehicle could make this interesting.  Bob Kaldunsk

I see a fact finding trip to the English Channel in Kieth's future.

Although I question the need for a Huff Street underpass, and especially a bridge intersection with Hwy 61, I suppose Bob Sebo is right about going for as much federal dollars as we can get. It's just too bad that Winona will have to pay for the majority of the projects' costs. And how is waiting for the occasional train to go by such an intolerable burden when people able to cope with the traffic lights at Sarnia which delay motorists for twelve hours each day?

If possible emergency situations are driving this, how about making a pedestrian underpass just large enough for a standard car to get through. The fire department (which has stations on each side of the main tracks BTW) could then have a couple of low profile station-wagon ambulances. Note that Huff Street is crossed by trains passing through as opposed to Pelzer and Mankato which see some slow moving switching activity. But since federal and state money is involved, I suppose that uniform highway design standards will have to be met.

Bob Sebo's list of hoped for intersection and highway improvements is certainly in keeping with past practices of spending whatever is takes to accommodate ever increasing automobile based transportation systems. If this century sees as much motor vehicle traffic growth and suburban development as the last one, then we need to get with the program ASAP.

P.S. I appreciate it that Mr. Nelson is the one remaining city official that's still willing to wear the digital "kick me" sign.
