Title: Re: [Winona] alc
I would agree with Dick and others which talked
with him that Central would be an excellent choice verses the current lease
proposal that appears to be on the table. Since it is an operating school
already and that any building physical changes or improvements should already
be in the long term capital budget for that facility resulting in no additional
money be necessary except for relocation costs which in all scenarios will be
spent anyway.
Such a move, in my opinion, would show the
community that the board is making good use of existing facilities and to start
closing the gap between excess facility capacity and available campus resources.
It also supports the proposition that Central is worth keeping as a
district asset.

I probably already know the answer to this question, but
many people have asked it to me Why can't the district move
the ALC to Central and move those students to the other Schools in the
City? I understand there may be some type of cooperative agreement with
WSU for Central but that has never been made clear what that
entails. It seems common sense would make Central the perfect location.
It is a one section school that is handicapped accessible , has plenty of
parking and is right on Broadway. If there is excess room in the other
schools, why not use one of them for the ALC? The district cost would be
minimal and the amount of aid received for the ALC students would more than
make up for the cost. Please explain. Thanks Dick Gaffron

I'll do my best to answer you. Now that the work week is in gear,
and I dedicate 50-60 hours to that job, and a school board meeting this week,
another 20 hours or so. As a result I may not get back to you until this
week-end.
Thanks for your patience.
