You're not angry Mr Dittmann? If you say so. My language was in no way meant to confuse you, I was just going of my perception of your tone in your letters and the fact that you were presenting no solutions to your complaints..my misunderstanding, and I appologize for whatever you percieved to be a "straw man" arguement. Lets be adults and agree to disagree and move on from here.

What exactly are your solutions then? I would love to hear the traffic solution because I have to drive through that mess almost everyday and I am accustomed to Mpls and Phoenix traffic, for some reason that snarl for a 1/4 mile strip really gets my goat as well, My guess is the first solution would be to actually time the lights..

Regarding the unemployment, I was refering to national rates, not Winona, and the availability of jobs for degree holders if they chose to leave the fair city of Winona, as far as High School grads not wanting to stay around? I juyt moved back after being gone since 1992, personally I believe a good % of students have the urge to leave the nest and explorethe world, I dont believe you are going to retain some of those kids no matter what incentives to stick around a town of 27,000 may be, my personal opinion is that Winona has many many more job opportunities now then when I left almost 15 yrs ago. There are alot of companies here now that simply didnt exist here in the early 90's..

Mr Engler made some EXCELLENT points about the mismanagement that goes on in Winona, kind of made me realize how miopic my view on the waste of our $$$ is when I read it.

Does anyone here notice the "safety assesment" they are levying on our property taxes to cover the cost of the sprinkler system they "forgot" to include in their initial construction estimates? The architect got paid his full fee correct(I dont have the figures handy but I believe it was @ $50,000)...since when does a professional architect working on a public project NOT know that he has to have a sprinkler system up to code? Who dropped the ball there? Was it the school board intentionally misleading us once again? The architect HAD to know that this needed to be included in the plans...and then they have the gall to sugar coat it by calling it a safety assesment...let me tell you, my property is safe already, it doesnt need a "safety assesment", nor does it need any more tax assesments either....thank you Mr.Durand, I really enjoy you and your school board fleecing me and my neighbors once again.
