[Winona Online Democracy]

It sickens me to hear about anyone who is in an elected seat or deemed a
"representative of the people" - treat the "people" with little or no respect.
I see it in all aspects of this City, School Board and City Council. These
people are voted into office to represent the best interests of the people, not
the minority or a few. I applaud anyone who stands up to these people and
speaks their mind.
Unfortunately, this city has tolerated nasty responses in various ways from all
these parties. The rights and desires of most taxpayers are ignored. The
interests and ramifications of the people the decisions affect are ignored.
Anyone who dares speak out is treated just as Ruth Marg has stated. Anyone who
challenges "the authorities", is chastised. I cannot tell you how many people
refuse to get involved with local politics including the public schools for
fear of this. The voice of the people is being smothered.

Do not stop standing up for what you believe in out of fear of public attacks.
If the majority stands together, we are much stronger, help each other out, it
is only a matter of speaking your mind. These public officials that attack the
people who speak up, shoud be thrown out of their position. They chose to be in
this position to listen to what the "people" are concerned about. They should
have known at times this means emotion behind the voice that is speaking. When
people are passaionate, they talk passionate. Their concerns still need to be
listened to in a respectful way.
