I enjoyed Mr. Edstrom’s editorial, and think he made a good argument against the local option sales tax. However, I still think I’ll vote for it even though, being mainly used for Mankato-Hwy 61 congestion relief, it will greatly facilitate housing development up into the valleys and bluffs. Maybe the rail switching yard relocation and bike path to the middle school will actually happen.

 

The emergency generators for the flood pumps aren’t transportation related and should be installed whether or not the tax is used. Besides, they are said to be a minor expense compared to the highway improvements.

 

Just in my own narrow self-interest, I’m voting against the state constitution amendment. Giving more money to MnDot makes the destruction of my neighborhood to make room for an elaborate highway intersection more likely to happen in my lifetime.
