Hi Mark, Alberto and all,

For old computers running Win 98, Linrad could be an
alternative. The real time properties of Win 2000 may
be better as compared to Win 98, but if you have a working
installation that you want to keep, I think you may
find that Linrad works reasonably well under Win 98.

I have not checked Linrad under Win 98 for a long time
and before sending this mail I made a test just to be
sure - and indeed the latest version, Linrad-02.24 does
not work under Win 98. (No sound output)
I am pretty sure it is some kind of bug that might show
up on other systems in the future so I will presumably
fix it......

In the meantime you might use some old version, the latest
that works fine with Win 98 is Linrad-02.21 contained in
the file wlr2-21.zip which you can download from here:
http://www.sm5bsz.com/linuxdsp/linroot.htm

On my Pentium II at 350 MHz the system monitor shows 55%
CPU load when Linrad-02-21 is run at 96kHz bandwidth with
a Delta 44 sampling I and Q with 24 bits per sample.
This is with noise blanker and second FFT using MMX
instructions. Straight processing without blanker runs
at less than 10%.
