Thanks for all the suggestions, and the general consensus to kill this list and
to revive the Yahoo one with the same
name, that was temporarily put on hold.

I manage, among others, also the soft_radio list on Yahoo with more than 1500
members, and that list has *zero* spam (so
far...). The technique is what others have described. Firstly I need that each
applicant writes me an introductory
message, possibly with his call sign. Depending on the contents of that
message, I decide, case by case, whether to put
that member on moderation or not. If somebody writes me that he has built a
Tayloe mixer and he would like to use my
software with it, it is quite unlikely that he is a spammer... spammers haven't
the faintest idea about what a Tayloe
mixer is...but, as it happened, if somebody writes just "please accept my
subscription", well, that is quite
suspicious.... I accept the subscription, but he is immediately put on
moderation... which will be relieved only when/if
he will have posted a couple of messages perfectly on topic with the purposes
of the group. BTW, the guy who wrote that
"please accept my subscription" introduction, after a couple of days did send a
stream of spam messages, which were
first sent to me for approval, and immediately deleted. Of course the
originator was banned from the group without
further notice

I have now the complete list of subscribers to this Mailman-managed group. I
will assume that you all are in good faith
and non spammers :-), so I will subscribe you all to the Yahoo group as non
moderated members. You should receive an
introductory message from the Yahoo server. You will have then the possibility
to modify the terms of your subscription,
i.e. single message, daily digest, HTML or plain text, etc. If you don't like
to be subscribed to a Yahoo group, you
have of course the chance to leave it.

New subscriptions to _this_ group won't be anymore accepted, and probably it
will be deleted, after having saved the
archives.

See you on Yahoo
