Phill makes a very good point - you can spend an infinite amount of time
looking for perfection. My feeling is, "it ain't gonna happen in RF".
You can do tons of spectrum analyzing and never see the sporadic
interference that will take down your signal next March - for 10
seconds. And, so what if the user has to re-initiate their connection?
It's NOT the wired network.

If the intent is to provide web browsing and e-mail capability (low BW
applications) then the user will barely be able to, if at all, notice
the difference in 200kbps versus 500kbps in non-interactive
environments.

AirMagnet is a GREAT tool for site surveying, too. We used it
extensively, and still haven't used all its capability.

Subject: Re: [WIRELESS-LAN] site survey/deployment plan software

Hi,

We contracted out some areas as part of a deployment. Mostly though, we
did
the surveys ourselves using AP,s and laptops - it was not to hard at
all.
The contractor themselves did not use a spectrum analyzer. We also were
not
approaching the project with the view that everything must be 100%
perfect. Overall we are happy with the result presented as a coverage
guide to students and staff.
