Brandon,
Here at the State University of NY College of Geneseo, in new buildings,
I work with the designers to make sure there are data drops everywhere I
might need one for a wap. I am the one who would then hang the wap on
the wall. In old buildings, I "pay" my facilities services team (with
internal funny-money) to run copper from the wiring closet to the
general area of the wap. I then personally terminate the lines,
activate them in a switch, and then I hang the wap on the wall. In
other words, short of pulling a wire from a wiring closet to a wap
location, I do it all.
We can get a wap hung on a wall in any time from 20 minutes to a few hours.

I'm curious as to how you all out there handle the actual physical
installation of APs in your environments. Do you handle that within the
same team that manages the wireless network or is it a separate group
that installs the equipment? How do you go about having the data jacks
installed? Just as an estimation, approximately how long does it take to
have an AP installed?
For buildings that are still in the planning phase, do you design the AP
locations into the building based on CAD drawings ahead of time? Or do
you perform an on-site survey after the building is open and then
proceed with installation?
Any and all comments are appreciated.
Thanks,
