When the 5500 series were under development, 10GB was still very rare. I remember having a conversation with the project lead, and while I had the same concern about the lack of 10GB, I came away thinking they had made the right choice. Now that I've lived with the 5508s, I've yet to see traffic loads high enough to even justify the four 1GB connections I'm using on each one. Having suffered every WiSM defect known to man and probably a few others over the years, including frequent weird spats between the 6500 and the controller, we're moving away from the service module-based controllers to 5508 appliances. The trade-off? For some reason, the biggest networking hardware company in the world won't give users a 10 Gig interface on the 5508 and you have to find 8 single Gig interfaces to connect the box to. ...Sigh.
