ProgressivePortal.org is an online activist Web site
through which users have sent more than 2.3 million
messages since May 2001, and more than 645,000
opposing attacking Iraq since Sept. 24, 2002.
We want to set up computers that are wirelessly
connected to the Internet to enable people to send
letters immediately from demonstrations, on street
corners, etc.
We have three needs:
(1) Someone who is tech savvy who can volunteer the
time to set up wireless connectivity for our computers
(currently we plan to use Mac notebooks, but PC
notebooks would also be okay). Currently, we need this
for locations in San Francisco, but would like to
eventually be able to take the show elsewhere. We have
a Sprint PCS account that can be used, but it will get
very expensive very fast, so other wireless options
are also needed.
(2) Someone who can repair Apple PowerBooks -- we have
two computers that are broken, and standard repair
shops would charge more than the cost of replacing
them
(3) Sources for obtaining additional donated or
inexpensive portable computers (Mac preferred)
