Do AP/Routers actually have the capacity to protect the Lan from the
Wireless user and still allow the authorized lan USer to access the Lan from
the Wireless side?

The Only scenario I have heard is one where the lan access is done via Some
means of VPN from the wireless side to the LAn side.
This wouls allow all wireless users to access the internnet and only those
authenticated to access the LAN..

It seems the question is 1: How difficult is it to setup the VPN versus some
sort of simple box based upon a Sputnik gateway or similar software.
I have set up an FTP site on the private side of my firewall, I have also
setup a Webserver and also a PC Anywhere host all on the protected side of
the firewall.

I still have not figured out specifically how to protect the wireless
component of my Infrastructure.

I have implimented Lan security so once you are on my side of the firewall
you still need authentication to access resources this is as safe as I have
been able to make it.

Yes some tutorial on this even some on the consumer level routers is
lacking. I had quite a time figuring out how to configure for PC anywhere
access.

I'd really like to see a debate about the current state of risks,
rewards and approaches. What do we need to protect from? What can we
protect from? What can we safely leave open? And all with the goal that
APs routinely share bandwidth while protecting the owners.
