I don't know how to do it, but so far dlink firmware 2.5 is working good. I'll keep everyone posted... Andrew hakman (www.andrewhakman.dhs.org/wap11/ver22) was kind enough to send me the following: (I sent him a plea for help)
Hi What you're going to need: A Hex editor An original WAP-11 ver2.2 that hasn't been changed into a d-link. If you don't have one of these, I still have one in an original package that I can open up. Using tftp, get rom.img from the fresh unhacked wap-11 ver 2.2. Next, open a linksys firmware file in a hex editor (MS Visual C works ok, or if you don't have that, you should be able to find a shareware one or something). Now what you need to do is change the OEM ID in the linksys firmware file to a d-link OEM ID, and change the checksum to reflect the OEM ID change. This will allow you to trick the d-link firmware into accepting a linksys firmware. The offset you want is 0efff7. The linksys should have hex 32 there, and you need to change it to hex 34. Now because you increased that value by 2, the checksum has to be increased by 2 as well. The piece of the checksum you need to change is at 0effff. Just increase that by hex 2. Now you essentially have a D-Link to Linksys firmware file, and a linksys rom.img, so you follow the Linksys->D-Link instructions using your new firmware file and your new rom.img file, and you convert it back. To help with the hex editing, see http://www.andrewhakman.dhs.org/wap11/ver22/dlink2wap11.gif which should make it clearer what needs to be changed. Let me know if you have trouble. I'll do whatever I can to help. Andrew Hakman (thanks andrew) for now I think I'm going to keep trying the new 2.5 firmware because it has helped my problems a good bit... let's share what we find in both directions... who knows where we'll end up. good luck to everyone. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Milla Yegurku" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, January 12, 2003 7:56 PM Subject: Re: [BAWUG] wap11 2.2 to dlink DWL900ap+ > > it was a dilemma; wap11 v.2.2 was sleeping every now > and then -that made it quite useless for my > use/purpose; i wanted to hang it right below an > outdoor atennae configured as 'client' device to a > Cisoco Bridge/AP.
