Any ideas on why there are two cables and two connectors?
Either diversity operation or it switches between antennas to select which one provides the better signal.
And are the cable and connectors coax?
Yes.
intercept the antenna and run an external socket there. At this point I have a vision of a chassis N-Type sticking out of the back of the screen...
SMA makes a lot more sense.
