I recall grep'ing /var/log/* for the file(s) containing the "eth1: Error -5
writing packet to BAP" message. Then note the first timestamp of the error
message. Then grep for that timestamp and add that to the list of daemons to
stop. I had to do this 2 or 3 times before correctly stopping all the
daemons that interact with the wireless card.

A couple of other ideas:
- download and run Knoppix, it reportedly has Orinoco rfmon patches and
kismet
- try a Cisco card if you have it

Regarding firmware, my Orinoco Gold PCMCIA card running 8.10 works fine with
Kismet. Upgrading firmware on Orinoco or Prism cards requires having drivers
loaded. I recommend getting Release 7.4 Winter 2002 drivers & firmware
(8.10) from Proxim site. Install the new drivers and then upgrade the
firwmare.
