I, Stan Ulfeldt (KE6DRC), am moving to Pollock Pines, at 3,700' east of Placerville. I am planning to set up a link to somewhere in the Stockton area, and provide Wireless internet access to Pollock Pines area. "Tree Top WISP" or whatever. I am thinking of providing open access at limited bandwidth with full speed service for $$. Any comments on a business model that would work would be appreciated.
1) Where can I find a driver, horn or whatever, to drive a large satellite dish for the link to the valley. From the comments I take it that 2.4/5.7 is not clear for long links. For a 10 foot dish the gains are around 36/43 dB but will the path loss eat up the gain of 5.7?
2) Any comments on the Motorola Canopy system? www.motorola.com/canopy They are 5G self contained outdoor units 3.5 x 3.5 x 12 inches at 200mw with optional dish reflector like a Directv dish. They claim 35 miles (all weather) at 20 Mbit with their backhaul unit with reflector. No mention of 802.11. Looks like propriety RF system Ethernet to Ethernet.
3) I have line of sight to the hills above Berkeley and Mt. Diablo. Any comment of connecting to BARWN. Tim?
4) If you Mfg/Sell equipment you may contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] as I may be a customer.
Thanks
