I have been into wardriving for quite some time now. As a WISP Systems =
administrator I have a lot of time on my hands and desire to play with =
things.
In doing this, I have been through many cards, and the best I have come =
across is my trusty Orinoco silver. However I have ran into some = problems
lately.
It appears that the patched Linux drivers required to enter the RFMON =
state crash randomly, Kismet is a dream, but it never seems to work. =20
I am looking for someone with experience to direct me . I need a PCMCIA =
card that has an external antenna hookup, and is at least 50mw. I would =
prefer 200.
My biggest desire is have something that does not run on the Hermes / =
Orinoco drivers. I am hoping someone can help me find a good solution.
Thanks.

Response:
O.K. So you want a bad as* card for wardriving?
What you need is a Senao/Engenious? card with 2 antenna ports on it.
These cards have a better sensitivity than just about anything out there
next to Demark
and they also have 200mW of power which is the most powerful out there. You
can use the two
antenna ports for diversity and it works great. I drove around a small town
in Arkansas and never
got disconnected from an access point. I was constantly hooked up to
something.
Now if you are brave and an electrician of any sort you can take off the
hood and bypass the diversity switch.
Supposedly the switch gives you 3dB of loss so bypass it and double your
coverage. I did this and it is
just unbelievable. I see so many access points that my Orinoco never even
dreamed about.
Example: On one road for about 5 miles- Orinoco: 7 AP's Senao: 22 AP's.
This card kicks serious A**!!! Plus a little extra if you happen to have a
Win 9X box then you can use a tool
called WLAN Expert which will let you control the power of your card,
analyze the whole 2.4GHz band, and
get the VSWR of your antenna if you experiment with antenna's any.
Hopes this Helps,
RodDog
