|Probably not. The old APs and bridges sometimes go for a song
|on eBay, which makes them quite attractive in situations where
|I'd rather spend $200 than $1200. In any point-to-point
|situation, I don't care about WiFi compatibility.

And if you want WiFi, AP4500E's have been going for < $30. These are
perfectly good 2Mb/s units in their own right, but they can be upgraded
with an LMC350 for 11Mb/s and slightly better sensitivity. Of course,
these are even better for me because I can turn them into XMCs (like WGBs
but with no explicit limit on the number of MACs) or bridges. :)

|For example:

|
|Where an Aironet 3500 AP and WGB went for $80. 200 mW.
|I'm sad I missed it. I had bid, but forgot to check later.

I've found I get far less range with FH even at higher power. Even the
500mW Symbol stuff would barely cover my house and it was more sensitive
to interference from DSSS equipment than the other way around.

|And that's what I've since been told is how the Senao NL-2611 bridges
|work, too. When connected to WiFi APs, they play single-MAC games
|just like the WET-11. I don't think there is an alternative, is there?

Sure. They could pretend to be an STA for each MAC device they wanted to
support. There's nothing to prevent one physical radio from implementing
multiple "virtual" STAs. I've wondered for a long time why nobody does
this. I suspect the reason is that all the bridge-like widgets use more-
or-less standard firmware on the radio card and that will not allow for
such an approach.
