Did they fail because of the immature technology or a failed business plan?
Would the more mature technology available today have made an impact on
Metricom-Ricochets ultimate success or failure?

I was a Ricochet user in the Bay Area and was quite happy with the service even at its slow speed. They were also profitable in the Bay Area. Unfortunately, it was during the boom and they expanded too rapidly. Ultimately, they ran out of money. Today it could never compete with 3G services offered by the cell carriers.
