Unless your battery pack negative is earth grounded... you aren't grounded.
The TS5 is intended to be run off of 120volts, which will ground through the power plug to the electric system. Alternately, there are two spade connectors on the back that you can wire to your earth grounds at the tower. That would be my guess as to why you are blowing ports.
