If I understand correctly it is in fact a yearly thing but I don't think you would have to stop using the software if they stopped the program. You would not be able to use the software to upgrade to newer versions.
I don't remember the agreement wording but it is hard to imagine any court in any country upholding an agreement where you bought something in good faith, paid a yearly subscription, and then the company tried to stop you from using the software because the ended the subscription program. Even in a worse case situation you still get about $10,000 of software for $299 for one year.
