Ok, so is it fair to ask this:

Will witango be releasing a new version of (OSX) that works with FMP7?

(I hope the answer is yes.)

Actually it is more cost effective this way. Before you needed two machines,
now you just need one. And before you had to run an application (unlimited)
which was not as stable a situation. Also and this is the biggest thing it
is now all multithreaded.

Add the new calculation engine and instant web publishing where it applies
and you have a good argument for keeping with it if you choose. It is far
from dead especially if you also have in house non web FileMaker
applications.

Subject: RE: Witango-Talk: FileMker 7

There are contradictions to the statement elsewhere on the site if
you look long enough- That is why I brought up the thread in the
first place.

I do know they re wrote the data engine and it is not backwards
compatible with older versions- I suppose for security among other
things.

With that change I am guessing that middleware from anyone can no
longer hook into the data as it used to.

The best information I have so far is that Server Advanced is the
product that will allow access and the access will be ODBC/JDBC only
and we get to pay $1000 for the upgrade from version 6 unlimited.

Maybe it IS time to get rid of the old pair of shoes. 6 unlimited was
a stretch financially considering the lower and no cost options out
there. 4D gives away their product for free to Education users for
one.

Sorry for replying to myself....

Could somebody please read the following on FileMaker's site:
http://www.filemaker.com/ti/108943.html

Does this mean that using a FM7 datasource will no longer play
nicely with witango (non-ODBC/JDBC) as before? I have a copy of FM7,
and I've tried a couple simple tests. There's no clear-cut way to
get it to be recognized correctly as a datasource, but I could be
missing something.

Somebody...? Anybody...?

Thanks!

Joe

As usual, you may need to talk to me like I'm 2.... but -

Aside from ODBC/JDBC connectivity, will FMP 7 work as a datasource
with witango as FMP 6 does now? That is, can I select a FMP 7 DB as
a "FileMaker" (not ODBC/JDBC) datasource in witango Studio?

If I'm not making sense, let me know.

BTW - hello to everybody (haven't posted in a while, but I'm still here!)

Joe
