Using FMP 6, I can interconnect the POS and the online store without too much fuss, and from what I see with FMP 7, things are only getting easier. In fact, my horizons would seem to be expanding, as there is even more opportunity to take advantage of the best of both worlds.
I see SQL as the 18 wheeler of databases and FMP as the ordinary automobile. If all you ever do is long-haul trucking, then FMP is definitely not for you. But if you have a need to get out and get around town once you've reached your destination, nothing beats FMP.
I say it's a good tool – but certainly not the only tool – to have in your bag.

p.s. As for odbc/jdbc connectivity, I almost see the issue being more with Apple than with FMP. After all, FileMaker has been doing ODBC on Windows for some time – which begs the question as to why they can't on a Mac. Maybe I'm wrong, but if Apple doesn't come up with a better implementation, how can FMP?

I'm jumping in here half way through the thread, so forgive me if I'm missing something but...
If FMP7 has gone multi-table, won't that require a significant amount of redesign/recoding to allow existing apps to take advantage of it? Also, if it is now multi-table, won't that require that existing users who are so dependent on it for ease of use will have to learn how to design in a relational table environment?
In my opinion, doesn't that take away the main reasons for continuing to stay with the product? Wouldn't now be the time to look at the lower cost true SQL compliant servers such as MySQL, OpenBase, R:Base, etc.?
Based on what I've read, if I was heavily invested in FMP solutions, I'd be taking a serious look at whether I would migrate to the new product. It might be time to cut the cord and investigate other options.
Just my 2 cents Cdn.

Will witango be releasing a new version of (OSX) that works with FMP7?
(I hope the answer is yes.)
Me too!
I realise FMP hasn't been the ideal datasource for web applications, but it
has certainly been attractive to many of our clients due to their in-house
dependence upon it.
Now that is going multi-table and multi-threaded it is a better solution
than ever and if WiTango were rev'd to work with it (particularly the
multi-table addressing) then the world would be a better place.
I think I'll go and hunger strike outside the offices. I could use to lose
some weight.
