Why not? There's lots of other stuff, too. 

Software management on Unix filesystem is a nightmare if you
don't use package managers. I don't want to install anything
that I can't remove safely and that does not integrate in my
system (think also of dependencies). People should be encouraged
to build from the RCS *and* to use the package manager.
