Believe me or not, but wmsystemtray + nm-applet has made my life
so much better that I don't even want to remember how it was before
that.

The only computer I use is a laptop and it's always with me at home(s)
and at the several universities and institutes which I visit.

Before using nm-applet (which requires a system tray, and that's the
only use I have of it) connecting to all the different wireless
networks on those places was a _pain_ which involved going through
a list of access points using 'iwlist scan' and editting
wpa_supplicant.conf and running my scripts and praying. And when you
are a one-day visitor to give a talk, you don't want to wast any minute
on that.

Back in the days of Mandriva I had a standalone program called iirc
draknetcenter which would connect to everything known on earth very
conveniently without needing a tray. After I switched to openSUSE
all this NetworkManager stuff got in the way and I couldn't find
any standalone application like draknetcenter. And after wasting
a lot of time doing the connections manually I ended up thermalizing
with nm-applet + wmsystemtray and I'm very happy with it.

It increased my productivity, for example. Everywhere I go I'm just
a click away to getting a connection (and I move frequently).

And I didn't even mentioned the pain it was to connect without
nm-applet using a usb stick which I had in Berlin. With nm-applet
it's trivial.

So at least for me, there's simply _no productive life_ without
wmsystemtray + nm-applet.
