Hi Rodolfo,
i have just performed a git checkout of the latest next branch sources,
in order to apply your patches, and built and installed the Debian
packages. They still build just fine. ;)
But, why do you use the new
rootprefix="/etc/WindowMaker"
instead of the standard
rootprefix="/etc/GNUstep"
in the new /etc/menu-methods/wmaker to replace the former
rootprefix="/etc/X11/WindowMaker/" ?
Instead to ensure that the global Window Maker confiugration directory
name actually matches the user's $HOME/GNUstep name, like it used to be
the case up until now (and which most probably will not change for
upstream in the foreseeable future), this removes the rather usual
predictability of configration file locations.
>From a usability point of view, i don't really think that it is a very
good idea. Removing the predictable uniformity of configuration file
locations is a rather bad practice, equally from a user's and a system
administrator's point of view.
The standard should therefore rather become/stay
rootprefix="/etc/GNUstep",
and all Window Maker related configuration files, which used to be
located in /etc/X11/WindowMaker before, should be moved there.
Other than that, the Debian menu looks much better now!
A detail i am especially happy about is that the silly "Games" menu has
become just another submenu of the applications menu! Congratulations
for bringing this forward! :)
Nonetheless, i would rather suggest to better differentiate between the
generic Debian applications menu and the Window Maker specific parts,
instead of still mixing them together. Submenus like "Window Maker",
"WorkSpace", and entries like "Run...", "Exit", Exit session", together
with the "Help" submenu, rather belong into the top level proplist root
menu, which should be under full control of the user via the WPrefs menu
editor, and with the Debian applications menu being one of the first
level submenus. That would be just perfect!
Other than that, being a Debian window Maker user since more than 10
years, you have managed to make me very happy! :)
Very, very well done!
Thanks,
Paul
