YES! I've been using various FTP programs on the Mac and the PC since 1994. I've tried many packages through the years and have chosen two that have different capabilities, depending on circumstances. WS_FTP is hands-down, a fast and efficient piece of software. It is an essential piece of software that is vital to my toolbox as a Web hosting provider. There are times when I want to edit documents 'on the fly' on our servers. For these times I use CoffeeCup DirectFTP, but this program has limited FTP abilities in my mind -- it is useful for its text editing capabilities overlayed onto an FTP package. Still, my all-around choice for highest quality FTP software for the PC is WS_FTP Pro.
One of the things that I've noticed when I've joined software lists of truly excellent software is just how crappy all its power users think it is, or how inadequate it is, or how it just can't be stretched to exceed its specifications, or how there is so much more they want it to do, or how much the last upgrade missed in software updates and new features. Whoa -- scary for a first time visitor or user! I've bought more than one package as a proud owner after much research and review reading, only to find the user community filled with questions. User lists are filled with folks new to software, folks who want to push boundaries and do advanced things with software, and all the rest in-between. This is a very tame and satisfied user mailing list, compared to some I monitor. One I subscribe to is for an industry-leading piece of video editing software that truly is quite remarkable. Its list has sometimes over 50 messages a day filled with questions, confusion, feature wish lists, and bug reports. Yet, nearly everyone on that list depends on that software for their living -- they could always switch to different software, if needed. For me, WS_FTP works for everything I need it to do. I don't push it past its FTP roots. I don't use WS_FTP Server, which I think is the subject of many of the questions on the list. I don't need this. If I want to update CHMOD settings, I use Telnet. I don't script connections because I prefer not to. Some folks do prefer this, I'm sure. The bottom-line: If I want to transfer files fast and efficiently, I use WS_FTP Pro. There are no substitutes. Be confident. I think you'll like WS_FTP. John [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please visit http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html to be removed from this list.
