I would like to know from others
- anybody tried this configuration with success ?
- how do I synchronize WS_FTP Server configuration on the two servers ?
Best regards Gorm

Hi everybody,
I am trying to find out whether the Ipswitch WS_FTP Server (or other FTP
server for that matter) can provide some sort of redundancy that I will
describe in a minute. I read all the features
(http://www.ipswitch.com/products/ws_ftp-server/features.html) of this
product but what I am interested to find was not immediately available (or
at least I didn't see it).
In one of my projects I need an FTP Server that will get files from an
external source of data. This Server will be used by two independent systems
that will gain access to the transferred files and will process them (the
processing algorithms are different - that's why we need two different
systems). Because we need a high rate of availability and reliability for
these sets of data I thought that it will be nice to have the FTP Server
software installed on two machines (an active one and a hot backup). First
goes down, the other one becomes active and takes the role of storing the
transferred files and providing them to the two systems that do the
processing. From outside, the hot swap should be transparent (so the
software would have to deal with a dynamic allocation of the IP address and
be able to move across to the second system in case first one crashes). The
external source of data would have to try to send the files to the exact
same FTP site (identified by its IP address). Other features like mirroring
between the two FTP servers (so that they can synchronize themselves) would
be nice to have but I can implement them in a separate process. Also I can
modify the processes that interpret the data to look for the current active
FTP Server.
The Ipswitch WS_FTP Server has something called "Virtual Servers", but that sounds like something different. It also has "FTP Server Manager Application" but I don't really know what that does.
Has anyone heard of any software that can handle my requests?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards, Eddie
