To my thinking, if there's a collection (list) of articles, each with a "caption" or "title" and a summary paragraph, using a (definition) list makes sense, as it allows you to group "related" items (a bunch of news items). If there's only ever going to be one news item (e.g. you just want to show the latest news), I'd stick with the traditional heading and paragraph(s). Is a list with one item really a list?
