Yeah, I think I am leaning that way. In my case I will be using a breadcrumb as 'Where You Are' rather than 'How You Got Here'.
I maybe thinking along the wrong lines... But unstyled markup would appear more intuitive (to me) as a string of links separated, for example, by a '>' symbol. I guess it may not be as correct as a hierarchical (spelling?) list, but I think it is an acceptable way of doing it.
