I am surprised by these reports, obviously something has changed but 
between r5685 and r5700 there are no changes that should have any 
bearing on rig control or even application timing. I did update my 
Hamlib fork integration branch with some changes from the master Hamlib 
project but they were not in code that is active for Kenwood rigs and 
that would not explain the problem going on reverting to r5685.

I am away from the shack for most of the net few days but I will try and 
look into this Tonight UK time.
