For information.  I use a Kenwood TS-870 and I can interrogate the power level 
with hamlib via  "l RFPOWER" to read or "L RFPOWER n" to set.   The value 
returned is in the range 0 to 1.  Whether 1 means 100W or less depends on the 
initial setting of the audio level.    Since output power is a function of both 
rig setting and audio level it is not clear how you would be able to deduce 
actual power out with every rig unless a direct power level is available.   

For Rig setting I use  Hamlib NET rigctl which, following a suggestion from 
Bill, leaves me free to send network commands to the rig (ie set RF level) 
without interfering with what WSJT-X might be doing.   I do arrange the audio 
level to generate 100W output when RF level is set to 1.  I find that the scale 
is more or less linear so it is simple to select a much lower power as needed.
