You can give it a new life by installing Lubuntu, Fedora LXDE or similar light version of linux. The easiest and best way is to replace hard disk with new 100-250Gb flash drive and install linux to it. Afterwards you can add your old HD as second HD and you will have access to your old files (if any needed). Or if you ever want roll back (why should you?) just change old HD back as first drive like it was.

You will be surprised by the speed of boot up and also program running speeds.
