We have used this successfully with a USB GPS puck for expeditions out of range of cell coverage. Also, W9MDB's timefudge, which makes it easy to change the computer's clock in small increments. In my limited experience, laptops that were synced using NetTime when they had internet remain close enough to decode signals a day later. I'm wearing a 4 year old $15 wristwatch that is within about 30 seconds from the day I bought it. YMMV
